Subject: leak from bellhousing
Comments: To: syncro@onelist.com

After replacing the seals on both the transmission and engine in my '87 syncro, I still have fluid leaking from my bellhousing. The fluid is oily and black, I presume from the clutch dust in the housing. This saga began with a tranny rebuild and clutch replacement. Since the original work, the transmission has been pulled and the engine has been pulled to replace seals (all at the expense of my mechanic). The first engine seal appeared to be defective, had sort of a ripple in the sealing edge of the rubber. I guess it's possible to get two defective seals but that seems pretty remote. Any other ideas on what this problem could be?
