Subject: Need "obsolete" and rare bleeder for 83.5
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hello all--

I need a bleeder valve, part number 025 121 421A. It's for my 83.5 1.9 liter Westy. I don't think too many of the water-cooled busses have this part. The vw dealer cannot get it as it is "obsolete".

On the 83.5 it's in the top front left quarter of the engine compartment. It attaches to two small 3/8 inch take-off hoses off the large diameter hoses that pass across the front (front is front) of the engine compartment. (these large coolcant hoses are the main coolant hoses) It connects at the other side to the cross over metal pipe via another 3/8 (?) hose.

It has a slotted screw valve that has to be opened when refilling the system with coolant. The slotted screw is then closed when the system is full. It never directly bleeds air out of the system but it connects both large diameter hoses (input and output for lack of a better term--flow and return?) to the crossover metal pipe and I guess lets the air purge into the expansion tank when refilling.

Mine busted when I was replacing some hoses.

If anyone has one near northern NJ, (I'm in Morris County) or knows of a junk yard where I might find a Vanagon in the area please let me know. I'm not afraid to travel to get it. Or if anyone knows exactly which years have this bleeder valve set up that will be a help. Of course any leads will be appreciated.

TIA Jeff 83.5 Westy formerly of NYC
