Daniel; Temperature has nothing to do with it (directly), the cap works on pressure. They have been known to go bad so just replace it. If nothing else you will have a spare. If you really wanted to do the preventative maintenance thing replace the reservoir also. It comes with a new cap. The reservoirs fail by developing cracks. New tanks are translucent, aged units are opaque with white patches that are hard and brittle. I would spring for a new coolant level sensor, another failure item. Well I better stop here, like usual, my projects spiral out of control. #%-\
