Oops, guess I should have posted my message, huh? ;-)
K, just gotta put in my 2 cents.. I'm a big air-cooled lover from way back. I've owned a few T2's and loved every minute of 'em. But when Betsy (my '87 Wolfy) came along, I couldn't pass up the deal, $500 and a little care was all. I wasn't so sure about the Vanagon at first. She deifinetly has a different personality, but over the last few years, she's become my favorite, most reliable van. The po left me all of her paperwork (including dealer sticker!), and from inspection of the engine, she's never had any work done to her, besides a couple of sensors that I replaced. Now after 200,000 mi, the clutch has finally begun to chatter. After pulling the tranny and inspecting the heads, I find only some small leakage. I know that when I get her clutch back together and replace the seals on the heads, it'll be many more miles before I have to worry about fixin' anything. Ya take care of your bus, it'll take care of you..... In my opinion, bother water and air cooled need some attention, (what 13+ year old cars don't) but they're all worth it. Like they say; "It's not a hobby, it's a love affair". Lates, Don Preston '87 Wolfy GL "Betsy" |
