I replaced all my exhaust pipes (not the cat or muffler) last fall with the Dansk pipes from Bus Depot. It smelled for several days while the gray paint burned off. I don't remember how many miles it took before the smell went away. But the paint discolored while it burned. When it looked more like metal with suface oxidation, the smell went away. More recently, I put on a STEBRO muffler. Smelled again, though differnet smell. Smell went away (but it still looks nice peeking out below the bottom of the body panel). So don't worry unless it goes on for a long time. And don't spend too much time back there sniffing!
