I had to replace the muffler on my '85 lately since my catholic converter, ahem, committed suicide and dumped itself into the rusty original muffler. This effectively clogged the exhaust system. I fixed that with a hammer.

I went to the local muffler shop armed with the knowledge gained from this wonderful list. I was looking for a Dynomax muffler. Did not find any. I did find a glasspack-type muffler. This muffler looks like a larger glasspack, but it does have some internal baffling. This makes it quieter, it still flows good, and gives the engine a nice, deep, mellow sound, with a hint of throatiness when accelerating -- it is not too obtrusive. As matter of fact, I like to roll my windows down just to listen to it! At 70 and above I can barely hear it. The muffler is tucked in nicely under the rear apron and gives plenty clearance for those off-road escapades.

If you'd like a picture, I can take one with a digital camera and p-mail it to you.

Chris.
