I'm assuming you are talking about a leaky rack. Easy to replace. Took me about 3 hours from beginning to end. Never even jacked-up the van. I bought a used rack from a pal who owns a shop. Got it for $125.

People frequently sell Vanagons with leaky powersteering racks. They simply leave the pump dry and disconnected. Just make sure you tell the Buyer all the facts. Some Buyers may want to buy "as-is" to save money on things they can repair themselves. I bought my 5th Vanagon that way with the full knowledge of what needed to be done.

Of course you get less money for fixer-uppers.
