Donna, That's one thing that shouldn't be put on the back burner. The Vanagon's propensity to burn can be traced in most cases to the high pressure fuel lines failing. Check with Van-Again, I seem to recall Ken offering a kit to replace all of them, and for cheap. Of course, the peace of mind has got to be worth hundreds. His address is:
