Lack of parts??? I though it was because they were having a problem getting them approved by the smog referees.... consistently...

>Does anyone know of another place I can do a conversion in Southern >California?

If I was going to get an engine conversion I would most likely go with Detlev and his 5 cylinder conversion (see Vendors on Vanagon.com) or I would just stick with a waterbox (see below). And frankly I would not have any qualms about having this done (either one, though preferably the 5 cylinder) when the van has a 150,000 miles on it provided you're willing to do the other stuff like shocks (I like Bilstein) and the right tires, ect ect ect... and H4 lights.. and bigger brakes (esp so if going with 5 cylinder, and optional if going waterboxer)

Is a subaru engine conversion reliable? >Is my best option to replace the engine with a rebuilt, due to the high >mileage? >Where can I take my car to have the work done in Southern CA for a >reasonable price?

I really like Precision German Imports (or is it Precision German Motors???) in Covina (maybe its West Covina...). (Details aren't my forte, I just know how to drive there). The guy is a good mechanic and you can get an engine from him with a 3 year warranty or a six year warranty depending on if you want used or new pistons. They'll tow it for free if you're not too far away. And if you are, they'll get you a good deal on a towing...
