There are... 1.20 US (and Californian) gallons in one Imperial (Laso Irish) gallon. 18 x 1.2 = 21.6. Other factors may be the speeds you drive at there. We all know (at least those of us in CA) that it's easy to get carried away out here in the Golden State. Perhaps the pace of life in Ireland is a bit slower?
