You might check to see which r&p ratio your diesel tranny has. The case will be stamped DZ for a 5.49:1 or DM for a 5.89:1 FWIW, I have the DZ trans with 27x8.5/14 tires with a 1.9NA in my 82 Westy and I'm still hesitant about going to the aircooled trans. Comfortable cruising with this setup is 60-65mph max IMO.
