Subject: digitool: normal readings?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Just getting around to playing with my digitool. (no wise cracks!) It doesn't come with a lot of instructions... but I'm thinking that a good approach would be to make note of the readings now, while my engine is running good, so that when something goes wrong I'll be able to spot the abnormal readings right away...

So please fellow digitoolers, please comment on the following readings that I took today for my 90 Westy Syncro:

Power LED: comes on with key and stays on until the key is turned off.

Starter LED: only on when starter is engaged.

Fuel Pump LED: comes on with key for a second then goes off (and the Fuel Injector LED then comes on). Then on when starting engine and stays on until key is turned off.

Throttle Switch LED: on with key and stays on at all times unless the gas peddle is pressed... always off when gas peddle is pressed...

Coil LED: not on with key, then comes on with starter engaged... pulses at idle.... above 1300 rpm becomes steady, non pulsing

Fuel Injector LED: not on for first second that key is turned on then comes on when Fuel Pump LED goes off.... on when starter engaged... then pulse at idle... goes to steady light, non pulsing at about 2,000 rpm... goes off when letting off accelerator at speed (and Throttle Switch LED comes on)...

Temp 1 [air intake temp]: (reading seems to vary inversely with air temperature at air intake) .70 at 1000 rpm idle, 80 degrees F (sitting in sun); .72 to .78 at 20 mph/2500 rpm (various sun/shade exposures), 80 degrees F; .94 at 65 mph/3600 rpm, 74 deg F.

Temp 2 [engine temp]: (reading seems to vary inversely with engine temperature) .11 at 1000 rpm idle, 80 deg F air temp (sitting in sun); .12 to .16 at 20 mph/2500 rpm, 80 deg F air temp; .16 at 65 mph/3600 rpm, 74 deg F air temp.

NOTE: Mike Finkbiner reported a T2 reading of .14 at highway speeds... this would seem to roughly correspond with my readings above... BUT Karl Wolz posted the readings should be between .02 and .06 when fully warmed up... ALSO... the instructions that came with the digitool say: "With engine at normal operating temperature 0.2v, at 70F degrees 1v, if below 0 degrees not sure yet but think it will be about 4v" .... Anybody care to shed some light on this Temp 2 confusion?

Oxygen: hard to read, bounces around from 0 to 75

AFM: 1.46 at 1000 rpm idle, 80 deg F; the varies directly with throttle and rpm up to about 3.20 at 65 mph and 3600 rpm.

Battery: 12.4 key on, 13.3 idle

Thanks for your feed back!

It would be interesting to collect & compile a lot of readings to see what the range is for normal operaton.... and readings for abnormal operation with the particular problem identified.
