I don't know but something is still not right. You should be seeing around 200+ high side numbers if your temps are in the mid to upper 80s (low 90s) and around 40 or less psi on the low side. It really sounds like your expansion valve is wacky to me. The new ones are setup for R-134a not R-12. I wouldn't think this would make too much of a difference but I haven't been recharging stuff with R-12 so I don't know for sure. At the most I have put 4 1/2 pounds in a system before (usually 3 or just a bit more does the trick).
