Perhaps the V6 being referred to was the one used in the 240 series? My Volvo knowledge is becoming fuzzy with lack of use... But I believe that VW sold Volvo and *inline* 6 cylinder back in the 80's for use in the 240 series. I wasn't clear if the original comment meant new Volvos or old Volvos he saw around.
