Brian, Speaking from experience... On my '82 with L-Jetronic, the AFM cover is secured in place with a caulk seal. You can score this seal with a razor blade or sharp knife, and the cover should come off. After you have cleaned the contacts and/or repositioned the wiper arc, you can reseal the cover.
