friendly gurus,

i need to know if this is a common problem and if there is an obvious answer
for it. Our '90 vanagon has seemed a bit sluggish for the past couple of
days and then no power from a stop light yesterday. accelerator was floored
and the thing barely crept along. after a minute it gained power again, but
leaving the next light, it bogged again.

any ideas or thoughts? it's going in the shop tomorrow, but wanted to get
real info before i get reamed.

p.s. it also had a puddle of anti-freeze (8 inch diam.) under it for the
first time. heads don't leak, and i don't think it's related.
