Subject: '85 GL-Loss of power/fuel economy
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hello All, I'm new to the list this week, and very happy with the wealth of info I've found already.I've gotten some ideas of what my problem may be through the list, but I was hoping someone could help me more with their experiences. My '85 was experiencing bucking at about 73mph. I had replaced the plugs/plug wires,rotor/cap, oxygen sensor, and the air/fuel filters. Then the bucking started occurring at 64 mph and the fuel economy dropped from 18-19 mpg/highway, to 10-11mpg and had a loss of power. After taking it to the second "VW mechanic"($14 for the 1st to tell he couldn't find anything, and $150 for the second to replace the oxygen sensor, plugs, cap/rotor, and clean the ground wires), I found the list. I've read correspondences of loss of power pertaining to busted oxygen sensor wires, AFM's, and AFC harness fix. If anyone can help me with my situation, I'd really appreciate it and how can you tell if a AFM is bad? Thanks, Doug Miller
