Subject: 87 vanagon stumbles on warm-up

I am having a stumbling problem with my 87 Vanagon during warm up. It runs ok for a few minutes until it is just getting up to operating temp (needle approaching LED), and then it loses power and stumbles for a minute or so, and then runs ok. This is in LA where the morning temps are 60 or 70 degrees. Does anyone have a clue about what to check out? It seems like a problem during a transition in the operating phase.

thanks, gene kopan
