Michael,

The TDI that you saw is indeed a VW engine. Volvo buys VW's inline 5cylinder TDI motor. The newest 5cylinder TDI is rated for 150 hp. I am not sure whether Volvo buys the earlier or newest TDI. The older 5cylinder TDI was rated at 100 hp. But if you want the all the exact details go to the Wetteraur of Germany web site. The 150hp TDI goes up to 190hp and 330Nm of torque with there chip. Now that's an engine that would be a nice swap in to a Vanagon. I just wonder if you could build a transmission to handle all that power.
