Terry,

Thank you for the insight. The camper has sat for longer periods but I didn't hear this horrific clack until today.

How exactly does a lifter bleed down?

Two other people have asked me what oil and filter are in the engine. My answer is "I don't know", because it was changed by the Hyundai dealer where we bought the camper earlier this spring. It has been suggested that 20W50 better go in there. I suspect the dealer whould have just poured in 10W30 and used a generic filter.

Why is the oil and filter an issue?

Dan, You've got a lifter bleeding down, which causes the "clacking" until it pumps itself back up. My 85 GL does it all the time, if I leave it sit for more than 2 days. It usually takes about 5 miles to return to normal and will stay that way until I leave it sit again. Just another project I have to get to ( changing lifters ) The only thing that might happen is possibly the push rod might jump off the rocker, but I doubt it.

Happy Vanagoniting,

Terry
