Folks,

For those of you who aren't following along on our separate mailing
list, Caravana Pan Americana is about to get started.  This is a
Vanagon convoy from North America to Tierra del Fuego, on the
southern tip of South America.  We'll be on the road for 9 months,
with a planned return of June 15, 2001.

We're equipped with a satelite phone, CB, FRS, laptops, GPS systems,
and digital cameras.  As we go, we'll be uploading a continuing
series of photos and stories to vanagon.com.  Feel free to follow

'dispatches' button.)

I'll miss our community while I'm gone, but I hope to meet
vanagonners south of the border.  We'll even be staying at the
'Westfalia Campground' in a small town in Paraguay!  As many of you
know, VW busses are still being made in South America, and we've
gotten offers of friendship and places to stay from volksfolks in
several countries.

Steve Schwenk is talking about organizing a group of campers to drive
down and meet us in Panama for the drive north.  If you're
