I had a similar problem in my '87 for a while.  It wouldn't idle once the
engine warmed up just a little bit.  Though people told me it wouldn't fix
the problem, I came across another '87 and borrowed its idle stabilizer
valve.  Upon installation, I started the engine and it idled perfectly.
These valves can be cleaned, but I don't know the best method for this.
