don't know about peak pressures or when he actually tested, but he says the high is 160. Low he says is about 80 which he asys is about twice what it should be. I drove it home tonight and it got plenty cold quite quickly, but then it was not very hot outside.

I'm no mechanic or ac expert, but I am glad that it's running at least. Techie wants me to bring it back in a few days to check it again.

I hesitate to guess what your tech is doing but I think most Vanagon systems are 48-50 oz. PERIOD! I would be very curious what the highside pressure is at peak temperatures.
