Hello all!

Tonite I am going to go look at an 83 Westy (my 84 non-Westy is getting lonely). I've never owned a Westy before. The story is that a woman bought this car for her husband, and then they were divorced, and she kept the vanagon. Supposedly, it needs an engine.

The interior is in decent shape, expected wear on seats and carpet. Exterior is supposedly pretty good with minor rust. New tires. Pop-top is in good shape. All applicances work. Its a straight-shift. The car has been sitting for about two years.

She THINKS its an air-cooled. I've worked on a number of Vanagons in my lifetime, but they have all been water-cooled (gas and diesel).

Now for my questions: What do folks think of the air-cooled engine? Is this the same as the older type 2 engine? Is this a desireable Vanagon to have, being that it is air-cooled? Based on this limited information, how much is it worth?

Thanx for all the input!

Z
