It seems I must have handed over a perfectly good starter as a core to the boys at the auto parts store. After installing it, the damn thing would not kick. Pulled it out and checked it on the bench, it was ok. When I put it back in I was ready to change everything between it and the battery but it worked just fine. Now, once in a while, when I go to start the van the starter will start to grind then stop cold. I switch off the ignition and when I try again it starts right up. I was thinking it must be a hinky ignition switch and I was waiting until it definitely failed to replace it. Instead, you can bet your ass that I'm putting a solid ground on that starter! Thanks.
