In defense of Eurospec:

After almost 35 000 miles on the conversion I have to report a lot less problems than 35 000 miles with the original waterboxer. Yes, the droning was a problem, as well as lose exhaust bolts, and the starter motor. Some exhaust pipe connections have now been welded together, which took care of the droning ( so it was not the engine mounts, but the exhaust)and the starter motor no. 3 will be wrapped soon. For anybody who wants reliability and performance , who wants cruising in a fully loaded Westy incl.Thule weekender rooftop carrier at 85mph for 800 miles a day, third gear up to 70 mph, at 20mpg, the inline four is the way to go TiiCo or Eurospec. If you are a purist stay with the original. I travel with two little kids to remote areas of this wonderful country, and I can't afford to break down. My summers are too short (three months) to spent time in the shop. And I want to drive my Westy everyday for another 20 years. All this justifies a 6000$ conversion pricetag, I believe. If my wife ever found out how much money I have spend on my Westy!!!!????????Anyway,

Cheers, Hermann de Boer 87 Westy GL Kansas City

Yesterday, while Tassi, Inc. in Colma, I spotted a Eurospec converted on the lift. It's not uncommon to see this in Tassi's shop because they did quite a few of them for Eurospec. I noticed an extra angle iron bracket welded to the left side engine carrier equipped with what appeared to be a Golf engine mount. Asked the guy who did the conversions, he said that this customer had complained about excessive noise after the conversion. They tried every such thing including a custom exhaust pipe which which seems to satisfy most other customers. No luck with this guy until this engine mount solution. Apparently this did the trick. BTW, this thing was equipped w/ an OXS.
