Subject: Time to hit the road

After a long tenure in Seattle, my wife and I are pulling up stakes at the end of this month and heading out on the open road. We are getting rid of our apartment, giving most of our stuff away, and storing the rest giving us the freedom to travel. The first part of our journey will be in our '85 Westfalia around the U.S. -- first Nevada (burning man), then California, the southwest and eventually Dallas for Christmas. After that we may head south to Mexico, over to Europe, or continue around the US. Our travels are essentially open ended -- we will quit when we get tired of traveling.

Thank you all for all the help you have given me getting my van ready for the trip. The Vanagon list has been vital in making sure the van is ready for the trip. We bought our van 3 years ago with the idea that we would eventually live out of it so it is exciting to finally be leaving.

If you want to follow our progress, keep an eye on www.semyan.com where we will be posting photos and essays of the places we travel. I will eventually have a section devoted to the modifiications I have made to the van. We will have a laptop with us so we will be on email sporaticly (semyan@hotmail.com). Due to the volume of mail, I will be logging off of the list so if you want to contact me, do it directly via the hotmail account.

Thanks again.

Scott Semyan '85 Westie ("Home") Formerly of Seattle, WA

Afoot and lighthearted I take to the open road, Healthy, free, the world before me. The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good fortune, I myself am good-fortune, Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing, Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms, Strong and content I travel the open road.

Walt Whitman, Song of the Open Road
