Your teacher was correct. But for another reason. There is no such word as deacceleration. I believe the writer meant to say deceleration which is a word that means to reduce speed.

acceleration is negative or positive - there is no such thing as deacceleration... I lost points on a test once for thinking there was - teacher was a hard a##.
