Subject: Re: Need Help On Flushing Cooling System
Comments: To: jglass4763@atomic.net

John; My two personal experiences with flushing Vanagon systems (85 GL and 86 Transporter) were negative. That is the temperature needle ran higher than before I started. I used the conventional method of inserting a tee into the heater hose and back flushing after running the cleansing liquid. My theory is; due to it's distance from the engine, the radiator ended up with a lot of debris settling out in it. From this experience it is my recommendation, if the engine must be flushed, that the radiator be removed afterwards and be professionally "blasted out". Only a few shops can do this, a procedure involving heat, pressure and sonic waves( I think).
