Listees,

In June of 1999, I visited the VW factory in Wolfsburg during a month's Westy journey in Europe. As a result of posting by Richard Golen, who advised that he would obtain certificates while he was in Germany for Listees who sent him the appropriate fee for the certificates, I marked my calendar to order directly, in-person from VW, while I was in Germany. I meant to obtain a certificate for my vehicle and one as gift for my friend whose Westy I was using.

At the Visitors Center, I ordered, and paid for, two Westfalia birth certificates for which I have the receipt. A harried, and as an aside, startlingly beautiful receptionist, at about 15 minutes from "quitting time," was Teutonic in her manner, efficient, precise, unsmiling and curt, but I drew from her seemingly attentive demeanor that the certificates would be in the mail, as she said, " in a few days." More than a year later, I have yet to receive a packet, or a letter of inability to perform, or a refund via Der Bundespost from Volkswagen AG.

I conjecture that RG was in the same line, obviously, at an earlier date, and that he is still waiting for delivery. He does owe the orderers an explanation, though, and, maybe, this thread will prompt him to report to the List. He is a Good Scout, and I suspect that he just forgot, as I did, until this line of Birth Certificate commentary appeared on the List and reminded me, too.
