Subject: Compression Test
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Hello,

I am going to do a compression test on a 85 GL Vanagon I am planning on buying.

This is my procedure, any comments welcome, I am new to Vanagons:

1. Engine will be cold because I plan on reinstalling plugs and going for a 1 hour test drive afterwards and I don't want to tighten the plugs on a hot engine.

2. I will remove all sparkplugs and ground the ignition lead from the coil to the distributor.

3. Should I remove the relay for the fuel pump? or pull the fuse? or just disconnect the wire at the pump. (this last might be the easiest for me because I don't know where the relay is) Or is it even necessary to mess with the fuel pump for this test?

4. I plan to let the first cylinder go 5 revolutions (or how ever many it takes to get 150#'s, up to 8 revolutions) I will then do all cylinders the same number of revolutions.

5. The engine may be flooded when I'm done, so I'll just floor it to start.

Any corrections or suggestions?

Thanks, Mark Ingalls ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
