Larry-

I spent my summer catching up with my 84gl. Water pump, cat, muffler, brakes, speed cable, sliding door, tune up, inspection. Got it all togther but my brakes were squeeking like all get out. THought it might be the pads, as that was addressed by this list a week or so ago. Went to local Pep Boys and they had anti squeek shims. They worked! No more squeek! But alas as I pulled in front of my house and parked with a big smile on my face, I noticed a little puddle under the engine.

Now, at 230,000, I know I probably need some major engine work if I start on the heads. And, with the wear on ole Jackson maybe a newer Vanagon is in order, but until finances change, that is out. Fortunatly my communte it only 1 mi. each way so I did something I hated to do... Bars Leak - Gold Seal.

Please no hate mail. I had no choice. But.... the leak has stopped for the time being. And time being what it is, that will do for now.

Next up- running rich. Hmm guess that doesn't seem like such a big deal now.

Vanagoneers, Looks like the dreaded head gasket leak has finally caught up with my '87 GL at 98K miles. Couldn't happen at a worse time (though no time is a good time for this!). Can anyone suggest a palliative? Isn't there a Moroso product that's supposed to be effective as a temporary fix--something put into the coolant that's supposed to plug up the leaks (without plugging the radiator too?) TIA, Larry Merin Little Rock merin@exchange.uams.edu
