Well, back in "The 60's" I rode my thumb around the country for three years and except for a few incidents we wont go into I have many good memories. (Yes, it was in the 60's and yes I **DO** remember!). I dont hate you but I will confess a touch of envy. When you are going through the Dakota's take a look at the side of the hills you will be passing. You will notice that "steps" dug into the sides that go all around and across every hill. Those steps were worn into the hills by the millions of buffalo that migrated back and forth over those hills. You may also notice how increadably BLACK the earth is. Millions of buffalo make a LOT of fertalizer! This was told me by an old "Grey-Beard" with an equally old Black Lab that picked me up as I was passing thouugh. During the ride we somehow managed to decide to go fishing at a small dam he knew of. We stayed three days on that dam living in his old pickup with a home built wood camper. So, along with the usual "be careful out there" here's wishing the bad you encounter (and you will, you know) is not too bad, the good is very good and your adventure is all you want it to be.

Hello fellow and fella Vanagonites,

In two weeks I will be giving myself the MacDaddy of 40th birthday presents of all. I'm quitting my job, getting rid of my apartment, and taking off on a cross country adventure!!! It's OK if you hate me a little - all of my friends and family do...

I'll be leaving Pennsyltucky (York,PA) on September 5th and heading across via Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota at a fairly rapid pace. Then I hope to slow down a little and take in some Forests. Key spots are Jackson Hole/Grand Tetons-WY, Boise-Idaho, Eugene-Oregon, The Redwoods-California, SanFran-of course California, Sierra Nevada's, Flagstaff-Arizona. From there...I don't know. Head back East...? Stay awhile...? Go back to my favorite spot...? Who knows...surely not me.???

Anyone who wants to give advice, share experiences, or cheer me on, please do. This list has been a great source of useful information and a great confidence builder. I love you guys/gals. Thanks for all of the late nights/early mornings, e-mail printouts to file, and great commradery. I'll be watching for you all across the country. Keep an eye out for me - I'm in the yellow Westy with the Arizona state flag on front - PA plates on rear.

Soon to be 40, unemployed, and homeless. Won't my parents be proud? Peace -donna '84 Westy (Pepe)

Forget the "homeless" part - I have a VW Westy!!!!!
