Guilty. This was a case where I was listened to my distributor and should have done more research on my own. I actually got two reports from customers that the sensor was wrong, so I brought them to the attention of my VDO/Bosch distributor. The distributor checked their books, got back to me, and emphatically swore up and down that they were correct and that I must be crazy. They told me they'd been selling them for Syncros for years without any complaints (and, sure enough, a five year old copy of their parts book that I had listed the 041A as fitting a Syncro). I should have followed up further rather than just taking their word, given that two customers had commented on it, but I guess I took the lazy way out and let them convince me. Then, recently, a third person reported the same error, so last week I put in a call to my source at Volkswagen to see what he said, but hadn't heard back yet. In any case, if anyone got the wrong one in the recent past, let me know and I'll credit the purchase price toward your next order. No need to send it back, just pass it on it to a deserving 2wd Vanagon owner. Meanwhile, now that I know what the correct one is, I'll indeed change it on the website.
