Subject: Sunday help needed

I just changed out the ignition switch on my '84 Vanagon, and it looks like I am in over my head on getting things back together. When I got the lock assembly off, a brown collar came off, too. Things happened so fast, that I did not note which end was down. Look like slotted end should go down. Is this correct? The Peter Russet manual makes not of some critical distances when assembling the top end of the steering column. How critical are these? Any thing else important?

Please send help fast. Thank you in advance.

John Lauterbach Macon, GA '84 DL
