Hi all listees, I'm relatively new to the List. Been reading and hearing all about dipsticks getting caught in alloy wheels and causing linkage cracks in the gearbox resulting in theft of radios from campervanagons parked in San Francisco. THEN..........the spedometer cable from an '82 Syncro Camperfalia doesn't fit in the back seat, because of either the 195/75/15 tyres fitted, or GL/5 transmission oil was used instead of the GL/4 oil in the Radiator, all resulting in failure of the O2 sensor ............AND THEN - there's the guns, cooking pots, oil rust-proofing, dem dum coolant lights dum-kin blinkin because der koolant izzz not kooling ze heads of my dinkin wasseerrrrboxxxeeerrrrr!!! WOW All really good stuff. I've learn't more about Vanagons here than I thought possible. Interesting at times to see the difference betwen Americans and Australians. No offence intended - just interesting - and amusing at times. My background: Family had a 1976 Type 2 when I was a wee lad. We had it for 13 years from new and was 'disappointed' when my father sold it in 1989. Only last year, I got a VW back in the family with my own purchase of a 1985 1.9 Vanagon - must be in the blood!! I keep telling my friends what a magnificent piece of German Engineering it is - they just don't understand..........
Anyways, the point of this email - being from Sydney/Australia: Are there many Australian members on the List? Is there a club of any sorts (in Sydney area) for swap meets, outings, information for Vanagon owners? Anyone interested in forming a 'Vanagon Family' if not? I get waves (and wave to) complete strangers in Vanagons as I'm driving along so thought I'd have to explore this!!
