In a rare and momentary flash of brilliant deductive reasoning, my
synapses fired and this thought resulted::


I think you are meant to use the Vanagon's tire lugnut tool that comes
with the vehicle to undo the tire carrier, so it would have to be 19mm
(or 3/4") Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to change tires while on the
road without additional tools on board.
