Subject: Starter Ground Strap?
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I was nosing around under my '85 last night while waiting for the oil to drain. I cleaned up the tranny ground strap. I would like to add a ground strap to the starter motor. It looks like I could run a braid or wire (10 AWG?) from the starter bolt to the chassis. Is this the best place? Will this do any good? The starter always cranks, but it seems slow. I know the pre-'86 starters were marginal. Can I upgrade to an '86+? Some places list all the manual transmission starters the same. Would I need to upgrade the wiring? If the ground strap doesn't help, the next step would be a rebuild. Is the (+) wire too small?

Jay
