Subject: LP fill valve busted?

Folks,

Not having much luck with the archives so I will float this on the list.

After replacing the LP regulator last year on my '87 Westy (red), I went to get the tank refilled and the tank fill valve seemed to lose its mind and started spewing gas all over the place. It would not shut off completelty and so we had to watch three gallons of LP zoom off to add to the pollution cloud and then freeze the whole valve.

The weird thing was that it took something beteen 4-6 hours for the last bits of as to vent from the valve (withe the fill valve wide open) before I could actually drive the bus away. So much for that early start to the camping trip!

The question now is, does anyone have experience replacing this valve? I have one source for the part, $225 (!) from BusBoys but am wondering

a) is there another source (ideally cheaper) b) is this another of those "weird" parts that one can never find without huge effort and $$ or can I do with some more standard replacement? c) with part in hand, how hard is it to replace (I am no super-mechanic but did manage te replace the regulator with one of a different shape that required at least some modest reworking of the pipework by the tank)? d) any gotcha's in ths process that I need to know about?

Thanks!!

Rob.
