I have 169000,mi. on my 87 Westy. This is the original engine. I had done the heads(with JB weld) at 141000mi. At the time of the head work I checked the side play on the rods and all were within spec. I also honed the cylinders. And on the heads I did a poor mans Valve seat grind ,I rotated the valves on the seats with grinding compound and checked for leakage with a light solvent. So for 28000 miles this engine has done its thing with basically no major problems. But I also know that it is just a matter of time and the engine will give up the ghost. I drive it, what would be considered hard (75-80mph). Tom Czerniak
