Sure, especially if you need to. With a voltmeter (or light bulb) attached from ground to the wire that goes from the coil to the distributor, rotate (adjust) the distributor so that at the instant when the engine is turned (by hand) to TDC the voltmeter clicks to 12V (or the light turns on). Make sure the rotor is then pointing to the correct cylinder that is at TDC (may have to take your valve covers off to determine). I used this procedure last weekend and got the timing within 4 degrees checked later with a timing light - close enough to run! Then I timed it using the light to be right on.
