Subject: 2.1L pwr steer hose leaking
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

hi folks. Has anyone had luck repairing or replacing a power steering hose? my supply hose (from pump to junction near airbox/part # 251 422 893 C) is leaking at the swaged joint that connects the two rubber sections. I'm not sure if this is an original VW swaged connection, or a "repair" made by the PO. Anyway, its leaking, and i know of at least one vanagon-fire that was due to pwr. steering fluid., so i'm thinking i better fix it. I'm having trouble finding a replacement and I'm wondering if i can cut the swaged coupler out, and insert a barbed connector in its place, then secure it with a couple hose clamps. How much pressure does the Pwr. steering system develop? Am i flirting with disaster here?

thanks, Curt '87 2.1L "sweet pickles"
