You can probably do that, but a far better solution would be to have a
completely new hose made up.  Look in your yellow pages for "Hydraulic"
or go to any equipment dealer, such as Case or John Deere.  Even some
NAPA stores will make up hoses.  Take the old one with you, it should
cost less than $30.
