Just my two cents worth....the swap that you make or don't make should be largely dependent on what you are comfortable with. A large number of us spin our own wrenches, and thus have set opinions on what is and what is not acceptable. Robert comes from a VW flat four background, others appreciate Japanese reliability with Vanagon character, others like the I4 and I5 VW/Audi motors, while still others like the grunt of a GM V6. I guess to make a long story short, there is no way that you can be at one with the universe if you are not at one with your van.
