Subject: Where do I place the floor jack ?
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Being new to Vanagons I would like some opinions on where to place a floor jack to jack up the rear of the vehicle prior to putting jackstands in place.

Bentley page 5 says to use the rear frame crossmember next to the jacking point. I will use this even though it appears it will require jacking up one side then placing the jack stand, then jacking the other side and placing the jack stand

Haynes page REF-5 says to place a block of wood on the floor jack and lifting under 'the rear axle final drive casing' (which I presume means the transmission casing section that is inline with the rear axles?) This would require lifting just once and setting the jackstands on each side at the ends of the rear frame crossmember. Bentley says don't do this or damage may result.

Any comments on how you jack it up?
