Depending on how I set the timing, I got more or less blue in the smoke. Right now I have it adjusted to the smoke is prett much black. I used an injector pump locking pin. I used two vise grips to "lock" the cam, and feeler guages the measure if the cam was in the right position. I did use the correct gasket.

My torque wrench in very old. Maybe it's inaccurate, that the head isn't tight enough. Could that be a possibility?

Smoking sounds like a fuel problem to me (unless it is blue smoke). It sounds like the timing on the injection pump is off. Did you use that special tool to time it with or just left it where it was? I have taken these heads off before and sent them to the machine shop with the injectors still installed, got them back and put them on the engine with no ill effects (don't seem to be prone to getting dirt up in there). I believe the size of the socket needed to get the injectors off is 27mm (Jetta Bentley). When you changed the head gasket did you replace it with a new gasket with the same amount of notches as the old one? This is critical.
