Of course, you're not saying what you're getting for that money... if you want to do it right insist on a Boston Bob rebuilt engine with NEW heads... replace all fuel hoses and coolant hoses and the exhaust system.... $$$ to do it right :)

I am leary because I love the vehicle > and I don't want someone to screw it up. It also may need the steel > left side coolant pipe, as a thick rust flake occurred near the > exhaust. I want a fair price, a good warrantee, and the work done right > the first time

Problem is a lot of rebuilt engines don't turn out so good... sure you can maybe make them give you a new one (within the warranty period... so make sure you put some miles on the puppy to give it a good test)... and if the mechanic has enough mark up in it he may remove and replace at no cost to you (get it all in writing BEFORE the deal)... but you still have the down time... a good reason to insist on the best name rebuilt you can find... from what has been written her on the list that would be Boston Bob...

as close to central CA as possible.

What do you call 'central CA'??? If you look at the map that would be around San Francisco... but most people call that northern CA :)

Often best to find a mechainc close to home in case there is warranty work :)

Or in a fun place like Lake Tahoe... in which case you can have fun while you wait.... in that case look up German Motors in Tahoe City... talk to George... he's the best!... drives a Syncro and so does one of his mechanics.

Good Luck, Bill
