On our recent trip to the U.S. Northwest, we drove U.S. #2 and U.S. #87 through Montana where we encountered many white crosses along both sides of the road, as well. Whatever the reason for the many traffic fatalities along this route, seeing the white crosses certainly makes a person back off on the accelerator and think "maybe we don't have to make so many miles today".
