I talk to lots of mechanics every month just to check them out for Westfalia.org's mechanics forum... Most of the ones that do check out do not have service writers... service writers are a sign of high overhead not expertise.. There are quite a few good VW mechanics doing well by word of mouth... many if not most are smaller personal operations with very low personnel turn over... There are a few big shops with low personnel turn over but in my experience not many... ask around there will be a good vduber closer than you think... my favorite mechanics are the ones who have been doing the job in the same spot with the same personnel for years... it is not a guarantee of reliability but it is a good indicator... as always ask how much and this is a buyer beware world... I will be glad to recommend mechanics and do .... see Westfalia.org mechanics forum
