Subject: 87 Syncro GL gas tank sender
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

My gas gage has recently stop going over 1/4 full. I have made the assumption that the sender in the tank has probably gone bad. There are only about three possibilities here, the voltage regulator for the gage, the gage itself, or the sender. If the voltage regulator was bad would not the temp gage also be acting up? Not likely the gage itself is bad? The question I have is, can in fact the sender be replaced like Bentley seems to say, without removing the tank, and were the hell is it. From looking at the Bentley drawing, I expected to be able to see the sender by looking behind one of the rear wheels, but I can not see it. Is it under what looks like some kind of insulation around the tank? If I can find the wires connected to the sender can I test the gage by jumping the wires together? I would appreciate any help in locating the sender, or in any trouble shooting tips

I have seen some posts about the A/C ducts falling down, I tried to get a couple of dealers to get me some info on the recall, but just got the run around. In the mean time the duct work fell down and bopped my wife on the head, you know how they get when something like that happens. I just made a couple of stainless steel strips about 2" X 7"--8" to reinforce the old mounting holes, and then I made new brackets for the rear A/C cabinet, which had broken the plastic mounting tabs. A/C is now mounted securely. If anyone is interested, I could probably provide a picture of the cabinet brackets.

While I am at it, daily I see posts about bucking, loss of power, missing, I shut it off and then it would not start. I had all of these symptoms in all combinations. Turns out the PO had something happen that seems to have shortened the wires to the alternator, the wires were pulling out of the connectors at the alternator. Just something easy to check that might help.
